How to Frame a Living Room Window With 18 Rods on Each Side

Living room windows come in a variety of sizes, shapes and styles. Sometimes you may not want window treatments to cover your living room windows but would like to add texture, color and softness around the windows. Or, perhaps, your living room windows are narrow and you'd like the illusion of wider, more spacious windows. Hanging curtain rods on each side of a window draped with cascading curtains can be a viable solution to both of these common interior design issues.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure about halfway between the the top left corner of the window and the ceiling and place a small pencil mark on the wall. Perform the same measurement for the top right window corner and place a small pencil mark.

    • 2

Stretch your tape measure from the left window corner pencil mark out 18 inches onto the wall and place a small pencil mark. Repeat this measurement from the right window corner pencil mark, placing a small pencil mark on the wall. Use a carpenter's level to make sure the marks are level with each other. Adjust the marks if necessary.

    • 3

Lay one of the curtain rod brackets against the 18-inch pencil mark to the left of the window and use a pencil to darken the holes on the wall where the screws or nails will be driven into the wall. Lay the other bracket of the left curtain rod against the pencil mark that is halfway between the ceiling and the top left window corner. Use a pencil to darken the holes on the wall where the screws or nails will be driven into the wall. Perform the same activity to the right side of the window.

    • 4

Position the left curtain rod bracket on the wall, aligning it with the penciled-in holes marked 18 inches to the left side of the window. Use a hammer to hammer in nails, attaching the bracket to the wall, or use a screwdriver to drive screws into the wall. Repeat for the left penciled-in holes to the left corner of the window. Repeat this activity for both brackets to the right side of the window.

Slide curtains onto the left curtain rod and position the rod into place. Do the same for the right side.
