Homemade Vases

People often focus on what they put in a vase when they set out to transform the look of a room. But flowers don't last forever, even if they're dried. When you use your imagination to create a vase from recycled bottles, you not only help the environment, you can brighten a room in no time at all, and add that personal touch to your home decor with a vase you decorate yourself. Things You'll Need

• Empty glass bottle
• Soap
• Water
• Towel
• Tempera paint
• White glue
• Measuring spoons
• Small container
• Popsicle stick
• Small paintbrushes
• Clear glaze

     Rinse out the inside of the bottle with hot water. Wash and thoroughly dry the outside of the bottle using soap, water, and a towel.

     Using the measuring spoons, measure 1 tbsp. of tempera paint and 1 tsp. of white glue into the small container. Mix the paint and glue together using the popsicle stick.

     Choose a clean paint brush. Dip the paintbrush into the paint-glue mixture and paint a design of your choice on the neck and base of the bottle.

     Allow the paint to dry completely.

     Choose a clean paint brush. Seal the design by brushing on a thin coat of clear glaze on the outside of the bottle.

     Allow the glaze to dry completely before putting anything in the vase.
