Instructions

    • 1

Wear gloves. Decide which color you want the artificial flowers to be and mix the dye accordingly. If you cannot find the desired shade in the store, mix two or more colors to create it. Mix the colors in hot water for best results. Soak the flowers in water in a container or bucket.

Coat the flowers with color. Do not immerse the entire flower at one go. Start by dipping one petal and then gently put the rest inside till the point the stem starts. Use a clothespin to hold the flower to the side of the bucket. The clothespin ensures that the flower stays in place.

You can either soak all the flowers together in one bucket or if you want each flower to be of a different shade, then dip them in separate buckets of various colours. You can also mix the colours in several smaller buckets or cups and dip the flowers in them individually.

Shade the flowers. Check them at intervals of 15 minutes. If you want a flower to have light tinge, remove it after 10 minutes or until it reaches the desired shade. If you want the petals to have dual tone, then dip the flowers in another bucket or cup for 3 to 4 minutes so that the petals get a slight tint of the second color.

Once the dyeing process is complete take the flowers out and hold them over the cup to let the extra liquid drip off. When the dripping stops, lay them on an old rag or waste paper. Let the flowers dry completely before use.
