How to Use a Pineapple as a Vase

Real pineapples are not suitable for permanent decor, but will add an exotic touch to your home or liven up a tropical party such as a luau. Fill them with full, tropical flowers, such as hibiscus or orchids, or use a pineapple vase as a serving dish for other exotic fruits. Group together a few pineapple vases to create a commanding centerpiece--or spread them around as beautiful accents.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the pineapple on its side on the cutting board.

    • 2

Hold the pineapple firmly and cut off the stalk. If the pineapple is unsteady when set on its end, remove a portion of the bottom of the pineapple to create a flat surface.

    • 3

Stand the pineapple up and insert the knife at the top, a few inches from the outer skin. Turn the pineapple around in a full circle as you cut. Use a large scoop or spoon to dig out the fruit.

    • 4

Insert a glass, vase or other cylindrical container into the pineapple so it doesn't show. Set the pineapple on a plate if there's any juice seeping out.

    • 5

Fill the vase or container with water and insert your flowers. Arrange them any way you like.
