How to Force Open Roses

If you have a special occasion coming up and you want your roses to bloom quickly for a floral display, you may have to force any buds to bloom. Forcing buds to bloom means that there will be open roses in your display instead of tight and immature buds. Roses of any color or strain can be hurried along with a quick trick and a helping hand from mother nature.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the stem of the roses diagonally, at about a 45-degree angle.

    • 2

Fill a vase with warm water mixed with a floral preservative.

    • 3

Place the roses in the water and then move the buds to a sunny location until the buds have started to open.

    • 4

Remove the roses from the vase and then dip the heads in water.

    • 5

Place the rose heads in a plastic bag and replace the buds in the sunny location until they have bloomed. Blooming time depends upon the individual stem, but expect them to bloom and open in about 24 hours.
