Gather the materials needed to make the button vase. As a base, use a tin can. Sand the outer edges and sides of the tin can, providing a smooth, workable surface. Paint the can the desired color.
Sand the tin can gently giving the dried paint exterior a rough surface. A rough surface allows the tin can to better hold the hot glue.
Choose a desired pattern for the button layout. This can be a layered appearance, faded look, or all-over button application. Use a hot glue gun to apply the different buttons to the surface of the tin can.
Apply this do-it-yourself button vase project to glass vases, as well. If choosing to apply the buttons to a glass vase, consider hot gluing a fabric layer directly to the vase. This will more easily allow the buttons to stick to the fabric rather than the glass.
Curtail the vase designs dependent on their purpose. Design the vase based on the flowers being placed with in it, or dependent on where it will be on display. Add different fabrics, lace trimmings, or ribbon to further decorate the surface. The button vase will offer a creative decorating approach while remaining unique to the maker.
