How to Make Birch Vases

Birch trees have a unique natural beauty, with distinctive white bark speckled with dark lines and spots. The beauty of birch trees need not only be appreciated outside; instead, use birch bark to decorate other household items, such as vases. A vase made of birch bark is both rustic and delicate, making it easily adapted to different styles of decor. By making a birch bark vase, decorators can add their own special touch and create a vase that complements the style of their home.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect vases to use as the base for the birch vases. Vases that have shapes with smooth sides and that have the same width throughout the length of the vase, such as squares, rectangles and cylinders, will be easiest to cover in birch.

    • 2

Apply vertical lines of hot glue over the entire surface of the vase. Before the glue dries, carefully wrap the birch around the outside of the vase, pressing it into the glue. Use a craft knife to trim any bark that overlaps.

Add some decorations. While a birch vase looks beautiful on its own, a satin ribbon or sash of lace tied around the vase is a simple way to add a feminine, colorful decoration. Glue some peacock feathers to the vase for a sophisticated look. For a delicate yet natural decoration, glue some silk leaves to the vase.
