Tuscan Décor With Stencils - How to Apply

The Tuscan style of decorating is popular with home owners. Tuscan motifs, accomplished by using stencils, add the finishing touches to a Tuscan style room.
      • Use acrylic or dry-brush oil paint. Acrylic comes in a multitude of colors, is easy to clean up the stencils between colors, and dries quickly. Dry-brush oil paint does not smudge when applying multiple colors, will not bleed, and can be used on any surface.
      • Clean the wall thoroughly. Use chalk to mark any type of lines needed to follow.
      • If repeating the pattern as a border around the room begin at the corner opposite the door. (Picture rail height is 88 inches, dado rail height is 48 inches.)
      • Spray back of stencil with a repositionable contact spray adhesive. This allows you to move and reposition the stencil up to 7 times. Position Tuscan stencil at chalk line and ensure the stencil is tight against the wall to avoid bleeding.
      • Dip brush or sponge into the paint, wipe off most of it on a cloth, and apply the paint using an up and down motion. Always begin at the outside of each stencil cut out and work towards the middle.
      • Let dry. Clean brush or sponge thoroughly before applying additional colors. The lightest color should be applied first.
      • For Tuscan murals follow the directions for positioning the multiple stencil layers correctly.
