Dinosaur Bedroom Ideas

Venture back to the time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth with a decoratively themed dinosaur bedroom. Young adventurers will find this theme particularly attractive. With simple changes to the background, furniture and decorations, it is easy to create a living space as exciting as the days when dinosaurs really lived.
  1. Backdrop

    • Deciding what kind of dinosaurs to use and what environment they should inhabit is the first step toward creating a dinosaur habitat. Jungles are particularly popular dinosaur habitats, and can be created easily.
To create a jungle theme, start by painting the ceiling a light blue for sky. Then paint large trees on the walls. This can be done in an abstract fashion. Be sure to include the occasional rock, fallen log, and plenty of palm trees and ferns. Caves can also be included.
Paint-challenged decorators may opt to use printed murals and stickers to decorate the walls. These are available online and from many major retailers. More detail can be added with long, green "vines" hanging down the walls and draped around the ceiling.
Curtains should be purchased in a matching color and hung over the windows. Bamboo-stick blinds are particularly fitting for a jungle theme.

    Furniture

    • To modify existing furniture, apply theme-colored paint and decorate with small dinosaur stickers, dinosaur footprints or similar designs.
Bean-bag chairs can be tossed around the room. Gray and black bags can resemble large rocks.
Bunk beds can help create a "cave" feeling in the sleeping area, especially if the bottom bed is removed. This gives little cavemen the chance to climb up to their loft for a safe slumber above the dangerous dinosaurs all around.
Bedding should also be in a corresponding color or dinosaur print. Plain bedding can be customized with dinosaur iron-on prints. Dinosaur-shaped pillows can be used to decorate the bed.

    Decorations

    • A child who has an interest in dinosaurs probably already owns many potential decorations. Plastic dinosaur toys can be displayed on shelves or in cases. Plush dinosaurs can be spread across the bed, placed on shelves or even set on the floor.
Frame dinosaur posters with theme-colored curtains or frames. Frames that resemble bamboo, rock or other similar substances are very appropriate. You may also consider framing a chalkboard or whiteboard on a wall. Decorate the board with dinosaur magnets or a dinosaur drawing.
On the floor, purchase a leftover piece of carpet from a retailer. Cut one large or several small dinosaur footprints out of the carpet for small throw rugs. On the walls, place wooden "teeth" in a painted dinosaur's mouth for a coat hanger and other pegs.
Aspiring paleontologists will enjoy a small dig site in one corner of the room, although it may be difficult to maintain. This can be built easily by purchasing a small sand table and placing it in the corner. Build around it with large rocks, real or fake. Fill it with sand and plastic or paper mache dinosaur bones.
