Baby Room Stencil Ideas

Decorating baby's room using stencils is so much easier than you think. Whether your nursery is white, blue or pink, painting stenciled designs on any wall, ceiling or furniture piece is simple and effortless. Take the time to plan ahead and select the stencils you want to use and where. Then you can transform your baby's nursery into the beautiful, nurturing environment you've always dreamed of in just a weekend.
  1. Walls and Ceilings

    • Before you begin stenciling, you'll want to select a theme. Often you see nurseries decorated with moons and stars, underwater animals or simple teddy bears or rattles. Whatever theme you choose, find stencils that will reflect or complement it. For example, if you have chosen bears, you can use a honeybee or ribbon stencil to go with the bear stencils.

You can use stencils on the wall in a number of ways. You may choose to create something that looks like patterned wallpaper or a more sporadic placement of the stencils. You may want to select farm animals, jungle animals, horses, multicolored polka dots, Noah's ark, garden flowers, sports equipment, rocking horse or blocks stencils. You'll be able to find all of these and more at your local craft store.

For something more structured, consider stenciling molding along the top edge of the walls, or run a stenciled border around the room like a chair rail. Work around existing permanent fixtures such as corners, windows, doors and light switches. Painting these areas can highlight them rather than hide them. However, it is not recommended to paint stenciling around electrical sockets because the simple leaf or animal stenciling may attract baby to the socket where small fingers shouldn't be.

Be sure to add interest to the ceiling of your baby's room as well since they will spend time lying on their back either on the floor or in their crib. Clouds, monkeys, butterflies, and birds all make for an exciting ceiling and can give your child something to look at while they play or lay quietly in their bed.

    Furniture

    • You can enhance the furniture in your baby's room by stenciling designs on it, too. For example, for a garden theme, stencil on a series of tulips around the base of the changing table, or paint a few butterflies along the sides of the crib. Be as creative as you wish in transforming baby's surroundings.
