Instructions

  1. Stamp Method

    • 1

Choose your paint and applicators. Most large arts and crafts stores have a variety of colors and applicators to choose from.

    • 2

Wash, dry and iron curtains according to the care label on the curtains.

    • 3

Lay out paper bags on your table to protect it from any paint that leaks through the fabric.

    • 4

Lay your curtains flat on the table. Work only one section at a time so the painted area lies flat until it fully dries.

    • 5

Tape the edges of the curtain to the table.

    • 6

Choose a new, clean kitchen sponge. Lay the stencil of your choice on the sponge and outline the design with the permanent marker.

    • 7

Cut the sponge along the lines you've drawn.

    • 8

Pour a small amount of fabric paint out on a paper plate. Moisten the sponge stamp in the paint. Do not over-wet it. You want even coverage of the paint but not too much that the paint might drip.

    • 9

Apply the stamp to the designated area of the curtain. Press gently so the fibers absorb the paint, but not too hard that the paint squeezes past your stamp.

    Stencil Method

    • 10

Lay your stencil out on the curtain and tape it down with masking tape.

    • 11

Wet a paintbrush in paint and paint inside the lines of the stencil. Clean your brush in water before using a new color.

    • 12

Allow to dry after painting each section.
