How to Stencil a Corner

The corner, an often-forgotten area of the room, could get some pizzazz with the help of a stencil. An artfully stenciled leafy vine could wind its way up the corner of a kitchen, dining room, bedroom or den. The leaf pattern is suitable for most decorating styles and could be glamorized with gold or silver paint for a powder room. The vine could also travel across the top of the room and around an entrance door.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a curving line length-wise on one sheet of Mylar with the pencil, keeping the curve at least 1-inch from the length-wise edges.

    • 2

Position leaves on the curved line and trace them on the Mylar with the pencil.

    • 3

Cut out the curved line and leaves with the craft knife over the cutting board.

    • 4

Repeat for two more vine and leaf stencil sheets with different curves, matching starting and ending points on each width-wise sheet edge.

    • 5

Practice dipping the paintbrush in a very small amount of green and brown paint and pressing the paintbrush in the leaf stencil openings over the scrap paper.

    • 6

Attach the Mylar sheets to the corner wall with the masking tape, using the inside corner edge as a guide.

    • 7

Dip the paintbrush in a small amount of green and brown paint and press the brush on the leaf and vine openings. Let paint dry before removing Mylar stencil.
