Instructions

    • 1

Select a foam block measuring 24-by-24 inches. These blocks can be obtained from hobby and craft supply stores. They are solid, but lightweight enough to float.

    • 2

Select an artificial foliage plant, such as a 2-foot-wide hosta plant. Wrap a 12-inch length of wire around the bottom 6 inches of the stalk of the plant. Insert the exposed wire into the center of the top of the foam block, anchoring the plant to it. Force about an inch of the plant's stalk into the block with the wire. This isn't difficult, as the craft foam wire is pliable.

Select an outdoor solar light spike. These lights run off solar power, not electricity or battery, and can be found in garden supply stores. Press the spiked end of the light into the top of the foam block in front of, or behind, the artificial plant. After the light has been charged in the sunlight, it will provide illuminating effects to the decorated floating block.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 with other blocks and artificial plants to create the number of floating pond decorations you need.
