How to Personalize a Piece of Tile

Tiles come in all shapes and sizes. They are commonly used to cover tabletops, floors, bathrooms or kitchen walls. Tiles can also be used as paperweights or desk decorations, which you can give as gifts. You can personalize tiles by painting or placing stickers on them. However, a more fun and personalized way of adding a special touch to tiles is by engraving. You can engrave letters or designs on tiles using a rotary tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a picture or letter on the tile with a pencil or crayon.

    • 2

Wear your safety goggles and dust mask. Attach the flex-shaft attachment to your rotary tool. This will allow you to hold the rotary tool like a pencil.

    • 3

Plug the rotary tool in a wall outlet and turn it on. Engrave over the outline of the picture or letter carefully and slowly. Apply firm pressure when engraving to create a noticeable depth in the tile.

    • 4

Wipe off any small particles and pencil marks left over from the engraving process with a clean, dry towel.
