How to Stencil Wall Glitter

Wall stencils are customizable for any design theme and can add decoration to nearly every room of your home. Adorn the kids' bedrooms with fun, whimsical stencils; add an artistic touch to the living room with elegant silhouettes; or accent borders or corners to highlight the architecture in your kitchen or bathroom. Unlike painting wall stencils with opaque paint, glitter glaze allows you to create more subtle images that shimmer in the surrounding light.

Instructions

    • 1

Stir glitter glaze paint thoroughly after opening the can to make sure glitter particles are evenly distributed. Stir in several drops of paint tint to add subtle, translucent coloration to the otherwise transparent glaze.

    • 2

Temporarily hold the stencil to the wall and mark the corners to remember the desired stencil location. Measure or use a level to ensure evenness.

    • 3

Spray one side of the stencil with repositional adhesive. This is a low-tack adhesive that allows your stencil to temporarily stick to the wall for painting. Stick the stencil to the surface within the marked corners. Roll the stencil with a silicon rolling pin or a rubber brayer to flatten it and remove all air pockets.

    • 4

Paint glitter glaze over the stencil. Let the glaze glide over the whole stencil and self-deposit into the stencil openings. Apply the paint by brush or with a roller. Make sure the paint is filling all of the empty stencil spaces. However, don't let the paint run or drip, as it may seep behind the stencil and ruin the sharp edges.

Leave the glaze to dry. Inspect the results and apply a second coat of glaze if the effect is not glittery enough or if the coloration is too faint.
