Select scriptures that inspire your family and visitors to holy living and commitment to the principles of your faith. Some choices include Genesis 9:9, Deuteronomy 6:4, Deuteronomy 7:9, Joshua 1:9, Joshua 24:15, 2 Samuel 7:29, Psalm 23, Psalm 46:10, Psalm 138:8, Mark 16:15, John 3:16, John 15:5, Romans 8:38, 2 Corinthians 1:10, Ephesians 3:20, Philippians 1:6, Philippians 3:20, Philippians 4:8, 2 Timothy 1:12 or 1 John 4:19. The Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 are another option. However, any verse that has special meaning for your family will imbue your home décor with personal significance.
Measure the area where you wish to display scripture and consider a letter size which will both fit in the space and be readable. The background surface should be flat, semi-gloss or satin paint but not high gloss, according to Wall to Wall Stencils. Look at the décor style in your home and select a font, size and colors that complement the theme and create a striking visual impact.
Create a stencil by designing the look you want using a word processing program and printing out the verse. Carefully cut out each letter. Alternately, buy alphabetic stencils or a custom stencil of your chosen verse. Run a straight line using a chalk line or laser level for each line of the scripture verse. Use the lines as a guide to carefully place each letter and trace it on the wall or door frame.
Paint inside the letters carefully with stencil brushes and acrylic or crème paint. Use brushes with natural, flexible bristles, not stiff bristles. Rollers should be of high quality foam with no visible pores. Clean up while the paint dries and admire the finished result.
