How to Make a Throw Rug

Every house needs a throw rug somewhere. To add a bit of class to your sunroom rugs are helpful to bring your rooms decor together. The best thing that you can make the throw rug yourself. The cost is minimal and you will know that no one else has the same rug becaue you created this work of art.. Adding a piece of your own talent to your home will make you feel good. Here is how to make a throw rug.

Things You'll Need

  • fabric 3/4 yard each of twelve 44 inch wide cotton or cotton blend prints your choice of colors, here I will use shades of blue. 1/2 yard dark blue fabric for the borders. crochet hook size N, scissors, mat and ruler. Need to know how to crochet.

      Dig around your house and find old material, old dresses, sheets or tableclothes will do. Cut 1/2 inch wide strips across the fabric. With right sides together stitch strips of the same color together about 1/2 inch from the ends to for one long strip of each color. Wind the strips into a ball.

      Use your crochet hook and a fabric strip chain 16 stitches loosely, you will be making an 8 inch long chain. So single chain until you have at least 8 inches in lenght.

      Row 1 single chain in the second chain from the hook and each schin across. Mark the row with a safety pin on the right side of the work

      Row 2 Chain 1 and turn. Single chain in each stich across. Repeat this process until you have formed an 8 inch square. At the end of the square fasten off. On each square that you start mark the right side with a safety pin.

      Make twelve squares measure the first one against each of the others to make sure that they are all the same size.

      On a flat service, lay out the squares right side up in four rows of three. alternate the direction of the crocheted rows to form a textured surface.

      Join the squares together, start with a corner and pick up two squares. Hold them back to back. With a medium blue fabric single chain the edges together. After the first two are attached, then pick up the third in the line and single chain that one to the first two. Complete the row. Repeart this process until you have completed three rows of four blocks each.

      Pick up the first row of four block and the second row of four blocks and single chain down the seam to attach them to each other. When you have finished with the second row, pick up the last row of blocks and attach to the second ro of block. YOur rug is almost complete

      Take a darker color strip of material and sincle chain all around the outer edge. On the corners, accomplish 3 sinse stiches in the same hole to make a corner. complete all the way around the edges and finish off. Your rug is complete
