For best results, you should have at least four inches of fresh snow on the ground when cleaning your rugs. Hang the rug outside on the porch or another surface for about a half-hour. This will help the dirt and grease to freeze and solidify.
Put the carpet on the snow, and jump up and down over it several times.
Shake the rug out, or beat it with a heavy stick.
Turn it over, and put it back in the snow. Stomp all over it. Make sure to tread on every inch of the rug.
Continue shaking, beating and stomping or jumping on both sides of the rug until it is clean.
Hang the rug indoors to dry. Place a towel or blanket beneath the rug to protect your flooring and prevent a puddle.
