How to Correctly Hang Tibetan Tapestry

Tibetan rugs and tapestries can be of very fine quality, and they are often displayed as art instead of being used for covering the floors. Because tiger skins were valued by powerful people in Tibet over time, many Tibetan tapestries are decorated with the image of a tiger. Tibetan tapestries are considered to be very valuable and rare, so it is important that they are hung in a way that does not damage the fabric or integrity of the piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine which side of the tapestry you would like to be at the top. Flip the tapestry over so that the back is showing.

    • 2

Cut a strip of Velcro that is about the width of the top of the tapestry. Remove the Velcro strip with the hooks and put it aside for later use.

    • 3

Thread a needle with a long but manageable length of thread. Tie a knot in the thread and begin by gently grabbing up a small section of the back of the tapestry where you plan to attach the Velcro. Pull the thread so that it is completely secure.

    • 4

Continue by lacing the thread directly through the top edge of the Velcro. Continue on in this vein until you have reached the end of the tapestry. Cut the thread and tie it off.

    • 5

Repeat the above step for the bottom of the Velcro so that it is doubly secured to the tapestry.

    • 6

Put the tapestry aside and proceed by applying double sided tape to the back of the strip of Velcro with loop, that you had put aside. Adhere the strip of Velcro to the wall, making sure that it is straight and without any bumps.

    • 7

Match up the Velcro on the top of the tapestry to the piece on the wall and press down to secure it to the wall.
