Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the vinyl by cleaning it thoroughly and checking for rips or tears. Make sure that the vinyl is in good shape before using it for an area rug.

    • 2

Choose the place where the rug will go and measure it carefully so that you'll know what size rug you need to create.

    • 3

Measure and cut the vinyl based on the measurements that you took.

    • 4

Prepare the old vinyl for painting by sanding with 220-grit sandpaper until the vinyl loses its shine.

    • 5

Clean the vinyl to remove dust particles and apply a liquid de-glosser. This will help the paint adhere to the vinyl.

    • 6

Prime the vinyl and let it dry completely before applying paint.

    • 7

Paint the vinyl floor in your desired color and design. If you plan to use more than one color to create a border or checkerboard pattern, make sure you use tape to keep the colors separate.

    • 8

Allow the paint to dry completely and remove any tape that you used as a guide.
