How to Clean Mexican Hand Woven Wool Rugs

Mexican hand woven wool rugs are also often quite valuable because of the high quality of workmanship that went into their construction. It is very important to clean the rugs correctly. Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your Mexican hand woven wool rug at least once a week. Vacuum the rug at least twice a week in its first year.

    • 2

Remove stains as quickly as possible. Blot any spills immediately with a paper towel, or clean white cloth. Make sure you blot the stain, as opposed to scrubbing it. Scrubbing can actually make the stain spread.

    • 3

Apply a solution of cold water and a mild dish detergent to the stain. Blot up the solution with a white cloth or paper towel.

    • 4

Test a small portion of a stain removing product that is approved for hand woven rool rugs on a small portion of the rug. Stain removing products are recommended for stains that have set in (or dried). If there are no adverse effects, apply the stain remover to the entire stain.

    • 5

Place the rug outside on a patio or deck.

    • 6

Hose down both sides of your Mexican rug.

    • 7

Mix a wool detergent with cold water in a pail.

    • 8

Sponge the solution into both sides of the rug with care.

    • 9

Rinse off both sides of the rug with a hose.

    • 10

Dry the rug immediately by placing it over a deck railing or clothes line.
