Lay the top third of the rug onto a piece of plywood. Trace the arch of the rug with a pencil. Remove the rug from the wood.
Cut out the piece of plywood. Follow the line you traced earlier, which should leave you with a half-oval shape.
Sand down the edges of the plywood to remove the splinters in the wood so that they do not ruin your rug or injure your hands.
Apply the stiff side of hook and loop tape to the plywood half-oval. Focus it mostly around the top of the half-oval so that the top of the rug does not sag down when you hang it.
Attach the flexible sides of the hook and loop tape to the back of your rug. Line them up with the hook and loop tape on the piece of plywood as best you can.
Run a stud detector over the wall where you will hang the rug. The rug is heavy, so you must attach it to the studs to hang it safely on the wall. Mark the studs lightly with a pencil so you can remember their placement.
Measure the rug from the top to the bottom. Use that measurement to determine how high on the wall to mount the rug. Do not let the rug dangle down to the floor.
Mount the plywood half-oval to the wall at the correct height. Anchor it to as many studs in the wall as you can.
Press the back of the rug to the plywood. Make as many of the lines of tape connect to each other as possible. Line the top of the rug up with the curve of the plywood so that it is not visible.
Pull gently on the bottom of the rug to help the hook and loop tape get a more secure grip.
