How to Stop Rugs Moving on Carpet

Rugs that slide when placed directly on carpet cause the user to have to constantly move and adjust the rug -- or to slip or fall. When stepped or pushed on, carpet pile moves in one direction. When the carpet pile moves from being compressed, it causes the rug to shift or move with it. The taller the pile, the more difficult it can be to prevent the rug from slipping.      Flip the rug upside down.

     Place a strip of rug-grip tape along the rug's edges and about every 6 inches across the rug back, sticky side down.

     Flip the rug over. Position it on the carpet, as desired. The rubbery mesh makes rug backing less slippery, and helps to keep thinner mats or rugs from wrinkling.

     Cut an non-slip rug pad 1 to 2 inches shorter and narrower than the rug.

     Lay the rug pad flat on the carpet.
