Shaw Carpet Styles

The right type of carpet for most situations is available through Shaw Flooring. Founded in 1946, the company was originally known as the Star Dye Company and specialized in dying and refurbishing throw rugs. Today, the company has grown to include its own brand of carpeting known as Queen. As of 2010, Shaw offers four styles of carpet to fit the needs of its customers.
  1. Textured

    • Textured carpet is soft and endures low traffic.

One style offered by Shaw Flooring is textured. This style of carpet is for casual use and works well for living and family rooms without excessively high traffic. The short twisted threads that make up the carpet are durable and soft to the touch. It's available in a variety of solid, patterned and varied colors, and a decorator is typically able to match the existing scheme to the new flooring. The quality, stain resistance and durability of this style depends highly on the chosen brand.

    Loop

    • Loop carpeting shows less wear and tear.

Loop style carpet available from Shaw Flooring comes in varied and even threads. The even loop carpets offer a higher durability while the variable loops offer a more textured appearance and softer feel. This style of carpet can stand up to more traffic than its cut thread counterparts. Loop carpet works for hallways, family rooms and bedrooms where foot traffic wears out the flooring. The various manufacturers showcased at Shaw's Flooring offer loop style carpet in various singular colors as well as color combinations and blends.

    Pattern

    • For a change in flooring look, a pattern style carpet might be in order. The combination of short loops and longer cut threads gives a more dramatic look than loop or cut alone. Typically not as durable as loop, pattern style carpeting is more decorative than durable. Good for living or formal dining areas, the style is typically one color, but is available in blends. The wear and tear durability is related to the manufacturer of the carpet.

    Twist

    • For a room with high traffic and lots of visitors, twist style carpet may be the answer. The long twisted loops offer durability with a soft feel. Sometimes known as "pile" or "frieze," the casual look fits for a family room, hallway or bedroom setting. Shaw offers a variety of this style of carpeting from different manufacturers. Mainly in singular colors, blends and patterns are available.
