# How to Keep a Scatter Rug in Place on a Carpet

Make sure the scatter rug stays where you put it by using a pad underneath the rug. This will prevent accidents and mishaps that could occur from a loose scatter rug.

- Tape measure
- Rug pad

Measure the scatter rug with the tape measure to find the length and width. You need a rug pad slightly smaller than the scatter rug.

Purchase a rug pad with dimensions approximately 2 inches smaller in both the length and width than the scatter rug.

Determine the spot you wish to place the scatter rug. Place the rug pad down first directly onto the carpet.

Place the scatter rug over the rug pad, centering it evenly over the pad. The rug pad will grip the carpet below it with the bottom surface of the pad, and it will grip the bottom of the scatter rug with the top surface of the pad.
