A Tutorial on How to Bind Carpet Remnants

Cut the carpet remnant to the size that you want your area rug to be. Neatly trim all of the edges and make sure that your cuts are straight on all four sides.

Cut one end of the Instabind binding tape and then peel off the paper to expose the adhesive side. Lay the tape on the ground with the adhesive side up. Then, place one side of the carpet edge on the tape. Make sure the end of the tape that you cut is positioned in the middle of the carpet edge on one side.

Press down on the carpet and onto the adhesive tape underneath it. Extend the binding tape just passed the carpet corner, and cut through the thin part of the tape. However, do not cut through the piping. Overlap the back part of the tape onto the back end of the carpet corner. Try to round out the corner with the piping that remains attached.

Continue to apply the adhesive tape around the entire perimeter of the remnant until you get to where you began.

Cut the adhesive tape carefully so it matches up with the other edge of the tape that you initially applied. Cut off any stray carpet fibers with scissors.

Put on a pair of protective gloves. Apply a small bead of hot glue to securely attach the beginning and end cuts. Join the edges together with your fingers. Hold the piping of both edges together until the hot glue sets.

Apply a thin bead of hot glue around the perimeter of the carpet in between the piping and the carpet edge. Apply this bead where the piping and the remnant edges come together. Hold the edges together until the glue sets. Continue this process around the entire perimeter of the carpet.

Turn the carpet over when the glue cools. Trim the tape that you folded around the corner pieces and press down on the adhesive around the outer edges of the carpet.
