How to Sell Antique Rugs

Antique rugs have long been admired for their intricate handicraft and beauty. Not only do collectors buy and sell these carpets, but they also are a trendy choice for home or office decor. Traditionally, Oriental, Turkish, European and Persian carpets are the most in demand and each has its own distinct look. If you have one of these carpets and it is over fifty years old it may be considered antique, but most antique carpets go back hundreds of years and are therefore worth more. To sell your antique rugs, there are a couple of different outlets you will want to consider to find the option that will work best for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Take several photos of your carpet from different angles. You will want one shot of the entire carpet and some close-up pictures so the details and the condition of the carpet are visible.

    • 2

Upload the photos onto your computer.

    • 3

      Measure your carpet.

    • 4

Examine your carpet closely. Check for any areas that are worn out, dirty or have rips or holes. Be sure to check underneath your carpet as well.

    • 5

Decide how you want to advertise your rug. You can put an ad in the paper or advertise online. Many online avenues do not charge you a fee. If you will be selling multiple carpets though, you may want to consider making your own website.

    • 6

Write a vivid description of your rug. Be sure to include the age and type it is. You will still want to take photos that you can include in your ad or that will be available for potential buyers. Be honest in your description and mention any faults the carpet may have. Include the measurements in your ad.
