A plain sisal rug can serve as a canvas for creativity. Oil based paint will soak into the sisal, which is a natural fiber. Adding color to the rug could be as simple as painting it one solid color or adding a border or pattern that incorporates several colors. Since the sisal fibers are woven together in a geometric pattern, following the lines of the fiber will help you when mapping out your pattern. Create your pattern on graph paper before starting this project.
