Take your flokati rug outside into the fresh air to shake it and dislodge any dirt and debris present in the wool. If your rug is bigger than 24 square feet, ask another person for assistance, as the larger rugs are heavy and hard to handle alone.
Hang your rug on a line in an area that does not receive direct sunlight, and leave it out there for a few hours. This airing process gets rid of any odors and perks up the wool fibers of the flokati.
If the flokati is less than 25 square feet, place it in your washing machine, and set the washer to a delicate cycle. If desired, add liquid softener and a small amount of mild detergent appropriate for woolens. For larger rugs, spray cold water over the rug.
Replace your flokati rug on the line outside, and allow it to dry completely.
Bring your flokati inside. Starting in the center, brush the wool from the inside, and work your way out. This process brings back the look of fullness to your rug. If you have a larger rug, brush the flokati on the line, and move the corners around to dislodge the water. Once the larger rug dries, bring it back inside.
