How to Use Multiple Area Rugs in One Room

Use your area rugs to mark off different areas of a room. This becomes particularly important when you have one room that serves several different functions like a loft space. Try mixing up the different rugs by choosing rugs made of different materials, featuring different colors, shapes and styles. For example, look for wool, woven rag and cotton rugs for your space, and be sure to look for interesting shapes and colors as well.

Tie a room's decor together using rugs. One way to do this is to buy rugs that all have the color scheme of the room in them. For example, if your decorating colors are golden yellow and burgundy, buy one rug of each color and then an additional rug with both. Place these in areas near the entryway, in front of the fireplace or in a reading corner.
