How to Hide Tears in a Carpet

Once your carpet is torn, you will need to keep it from suffering further damage. While an easy solution, the area of the tear can often be an inconvenient place to throw an area rug or move a piece of furniture in an attempt to hide it. If this won't work for you, you can hide the tears with a bit of repair work.

Things You'll Need

  • Circular carpet patch tool

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the torn area out of the carpet with a circular carpet patch tool, also called a cookie cutter. Remove the circular piece of torn carpet.

    • 2

Attach a hose attachment to your vacuum and vacuum the exposed hole to remove any debris that may interfere with adhesion.

    • 3

Cut out enough pieces of double-sided adhesive patch tape to fill in the hole. Fold the tape so one side will stick to the sub-floor and the other side is ready to adhere to the replacement piece of carpet.

    • 4

Cut out a piece of the carpet remnant with the cookie cutter tool. Stick the carpet patch into the hole and press down on it to adhere it to the tape.
