How to Protect Cable Wires on the Floor

Cable wires, which are used to hook up computers and home electronics such as televisions or stereos, are not always directly behind the object they are attached to. In some cases, the outlet needed for the cable is on the other side of the room or farther down the wall from where the electronics are located. Short of calling an electrician or moving the equipment to a spot you might not want it, you can protect the cable, hide it from visitors and have everything where you want it.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the cable wires across the room to the outlet and cover them with a cable floor cover.

    • 2

Drill flat-head screws through the edges of the cover and into the floor if you are worried about the cover being kicked and knocked out of place. You can also place a rug over the top of the cover to completely hide the cable from view and add another layer of protection.

    • 3

Run the cable along the floor around the outer wall of the room. You can then tuck the cable up under the baseboard to get it out of sight and protect it from damage. This can usually be done if the room is carpeted.

Staple the cable to the baseboard if you cannot tuck it under. This will keep it secure to the wall so that it cannot get tangled up in people's feet. You can also use adhesive-backed cable clips that will stick to the baseboard and let you snap the cables into place.
