Cut a length of yarn to measure 24 inches long.
Thread the yarn through a tapestry needle and double the yarn over onto itself. Knot the ends together.
Fold over 1/4 inch around the edges of the rug netting and pin the netting in place with safety pins.
Insert the needle through the netting, pulling the yarn almost all the way through. Loop the yarn back through the knot and then pull to secure the yarn onto itself on the netting.
Loop the needle around back to the area you inserted it the first time and slide the needle about 1/8 inch from the first insertion. Sew the thread around the edge as before.
Continue sewing around the pinned edge of the hooked rug until the entire edge is sewn neatly.
Knot the yarn onto itself on the underside of the rug. Take out all of the safety pins and trim off the excess yarn from the needle.
