How to Flatten Wool Rugs Rolled Too Long

When wool rugs are not in use, they are typically rolled up tightly for storage so that they do not take up a lot of space. If you are going to use a wool rug that has been rolled up for a long period of time, it often can present curled ends and rolled up edges that do not seem to flatten out readily. You can effectively flatten out the rug by using a couple techniques.

Instructions

    • 1

Unroll the wool rug completely onto a flat surface. Make sure that the floor area is free of other objects or furniture.

    • 2

Flip the rug upside down so that the curled edges are facing downward.

    • 3

Walk around the edges of the rug, covering the entire perimeter of the rug. Continue walking on top of the rug for about 10 minutes.

    • 4

Place heavy, hardback books around the perimeter of the rug. Allow the books to remain in place for about 6 hours.

    • 5

Take off the books and flip the rug right side up again. The rug will be flattened.
