How to Crochet a Prayer Rug

Muslims pray the "sujud of sala" on a prayer rug so they can be comfortable and clean. Traditional prayer mats feature an arched design, usually in the shape of a prayer niche seen in mosques.

The approximate size of this crocheted prayer rug is 4 feet by 3 feet and displays the prayer niche motif in the center. The size will vary depending upon how tightly you crochet. The pattern is a simple design for beginners, since the entire rug consists of the single crochet stitch.
