How to Clean an Alpaca Fur Rug

An alpaca is a South American mammal that resembles a llama but is much smaller in size. Alpacas have very thick fur in natural colors of 22 shades for making rugs with intricate detailing. The fur in these rugs is stronger and more resilient than sheepskin rugs, making them a long-lasting product. Cleaning your rug correctly will preserve the beauty and softness of the natural fibers.

Instructions

  Vacuum your alpaca rug as you would a flat floor rug. Place one foot on the edge of the rug to keep it from moving as you lift the vacuum onto the rug and vacuum it back and forth. This will remove any loose dirt or debris on the rug.

  Brush the fur in any area where it may be matted with a wire pet brush. Occasional brushing of the entire rug separates the hairs and makes it fluffy.

  Clean up spills immediately with a damp sponge dipped in a mild dish soap and water solution. Squeeze the sponge out so it is only damp and blot the spill. Rub the spot with the sponge and let the spot dry completely. Comb the area to detangle the hair with a wire pet brush.

  Sprinkle talcum powder lightly on your alpaca rug to keep it smelling fresh.
