How to Flatten Rug Corners

After being rolled up and stored, rugs will often not be as flat as you might prefer. New or old, a rug's corners will often bend inward when first placed on display. It is important to flatten the corners of a rug not only to improve the way it looks, but also to prevent slips and falls caused by tripping on the bent corners. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to help flatten a rug.

Instructions

    • 1

Tightly roll the rug inside out, so that you are bending the corners in the opposite direction. Allow the rug to sit rolled up this way for about 15 minutes and then unroll it.

    • 2

Set heavy furniture on the corners of the rug. This will help flatten corners as the rug adjusts to its new placement.

    • 3

Give the rug time to straighten if it is new. It can often take as much as 30 days for a rug's fibers to adjust and flatten after being rolled up for an extended period of time.

Take your rug to a rug repair shop if the problem persists. Severe cases may need professional help to resolve.
