How to Measure a Round Bath Rug

Measuring a round bath rug requires a yardstick and some beginning geometry. The radius equals the measurement from the exact center of a circle to any perimeter point or half the entire distance of the circle from end to end through the center. The diameter of a circle equals the distance from one perimeter point across to the perimeter point on the opposite side through the center. To get the diameter of your rug, you could measure straight across with a yardstick or multiply the radius times two. However, you might need to find the area or circumference of your rug. For this, you need to use pi.

Find the radius of a circle. The radius of your rug is the measurement from the exact center of the rug to any point on the edge or perimeter. Since you would need an extremely large compass to get an accurate measurement of the radius, it's best to find the diameter and divide it by two. Therefore, if the diameter of your rug is 4 feet, the radius is 2 feet because four divided by two is two.

    • 2

Find the circumference of a circle by multiplying pi by the diameter of the circle. You may remember from elementary mathematics that the value of pi = 3.14. Therefore, if the diameter of your rug is 4 feet, multiply 4 times 3.14.
      4 x 3.14 = 12.56 feet.

    • 3

Find the area of a circle by multiplying pi or 3.14 times the square of the radius. If the radius of your rug is 2 feet, you'll get the square of the radius by multiplying 2 feet by itself, which equals 4 feet.
      3.14 x 4 = 12.56 feet.
