How to Fix a Curling Rag Rug

Rag rugs are rugs made with scrap fabric, usually with either a braiding or crocheting technique. Rag rugs lend a cozy feel to any room's decor and feel great underfoot. Because they are made up of individual pieces of fabric bound together, rag rugs can be prone to curling around the edges. There are a few ways of ensuring that your rag rug lies flat.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat the iron to medium heat and set aside.

    • 2

Wet a fabric cloth large enough to cover the curled area of your rug. Wring out the extra water and place over the curled corner of the rag rug.

    • 3

Iron using the hot iron directly over the damp cloth. The steam it creates should help to loosen and soften the fabric of the rag rug without damaging it.

    • 4

Flip the rug over and repeat this process on the underside. You may need to repeat this process a few times. If your rag rug still curls at the corners or edges, proceed to the next step.

    • 5

Purchase rug tape at any home improvement store. Rug tape is a double-sized tape that will adhere your rag rug to the floor. Be sure you purchase rug tape and not any double sided tape, since rug tape is tested to be safe on hardwood floors.

Cut a strip of rug tape and place it on the underside of the rag rug where the curling occurs. Press it firmly to the floor. If curling still occurs, add additional strips of tape to the underside of the rug.
