How to Make a Throw Rug Stick to Ceramic Tile

Throw rugs protect your feet from cold ceramic tile floors in the winter. Unfortunately, rugs without backing can slip on the slick ceramic tile causing a fall. Gluing the rug to the ceramic will keep it in place, but leaves behind an unsightly residue. Gripper tape, which attaches to the bottom of the rug, keeps the rug in place without causing damage to it or the ceramic tiles.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your rug upside down on a carpeted surface to prevent it from slipping. Measure its length and width. Vacuum the rug’s backing to remove any dirt, dust and debris that will impede upon the gripper tape’s ability to adhere to it and the floor.

    • 2

Cut the gripper tape to the rug’s dimensions. Starting at any of the rug’s corners, run the tape along the edge of the rug’s backing, pressing down on the tape to adhere it to the backing as you go.

    • 3

Repeat applying the gripper tape along the rug's other three sides.

    • 4

Clean the ceramic flooring with an all-purpose floor cleaner. Rinse the floor with water and dry with a towel before attaching the throw rug.

    • 5

Center the rug onto the ceramic floor and press it down to attach the gripper tape. The tape attaches to the flooring without causing damage.
