Examine and clean your baskets. Repair any tears and remove loose pieces of wicker. Wash fabric baskets, and line them with a piece of cotton fabric cut to size. The fabric protects the contents of the basket. Clean plastic, wire and metal baskets with a rag and scent-free cleansing solution.
Organize baby's clothing according to type and size. Create a pile for each kind of clothing: "3-month onesies" or "6-month pajamas."
Place the piles of clothing in their own baskets and provide labels for each. For example, label a basket: "onesies, 3 months." If you don't have enough of the same items to fill a basket, combine them with something similar. For instance, you can store facecloths in the same basket as baby's towels.
Organize the baskets on the shelves of the changing table or on their own separate shelving unit. If using hanging baskets, hand them on individual hooks.
Store extra clothes in larger sizes or seasonal clothing in a bureau. Store as many similar items together in bureau drawers as possible; label the drawers accordingly.
Install shelves, if needed. Measure the height of your baskets and install shelves to accommodate either one or two levels of baskets per shelf.
Store larger-size clothing in labeled baskets or covered bins in a closet. If using baskets, store them in zippered plastic bags to prevent dust buildup. Try to stack the baskets with the labels displayed.
Place mismatched or odd-shaped baskets by themselves. While you can stack square and rectangular baskets, a round basket won't line up correctly. Use small, mismatched baskets as accessible storage for diapers and ointments near the changing table.
