Couch pillows provide a comfortable, stylish touch to any living room. There are many different types available for purchase, but it is much less expensive to make a couch pillow yourself. You can customize the pillow to the exact size and shape you desire, and choose a color or pattern that matches your existing decor. Because decorative fabrics frequently go on sale, you can buy various swatches and switch up the couch pillows whenever you want.
Lay out two layers of a decorative fabric flat in front of you. Cut a large square shape out of the fabric using scissors, keeping the two pieces equally sized.
Line up the two pieces of decorative fabric pattern-side-in and secure the edges with sewing pins. The "pillow case" should appear inside out.
Thread a needle with some matching thread and begin sewing the edges of the pillow together. Leave an opening that is about an inch and a half wide. Pull the pillow fabric through the hole so that it is no longer inside out.
Fill the opening with cotton stuffing, using the handle of a large wooden spoon to stuff the cotton inside. Make sure each corner is filled with stuffing.
Sew the opening shut after the pillow has been completely stuffed. Snip away any stray stuffing wisps or thread with scissors.
