A pillow cover is a quick way to change the decor of your home to match the seasons. Make a pillow cover that can be easily removed for cleaning and storage. An envelope pillow cover has a slit in the back that allows for the removal of the pillow without tearing out stitches. Recycle old T-shirts to make unique envelope pillow cases with sentimental value. Sew new pillowcases for all your throw pillows in one afternoon.
Cut the front piece of fabric 1 inch larger that the pillow form on each side. If your form is 12-by-12, your fabric will be 13-by-13.
Cut the back piece of fabric with the same width as the front piece, but add 4 inches to the length. So, if your pillow is 12-by-12, the back piece of fabric would need to be 13-by-17.
Lay the larger of the two pieces wrong-side up and measure to the halfway mark. Cut in half with the scissors.
Place the two pieces you just cut wrong-side facing up in front of you. Fold the two middle edges (one on each piece) over 1/4 inch and press with the iron to hold. Fold each middle edge in 1/4 inch again to make a neat hem. Press with an iron and pin.
Sew the hems of both pieces with a sewing machine, removing the pins as you sew.
Lay the front piece of fabric right-side facing up and place the two back pieces on top of it with the right-sides facing down and the hems to the middle of the pillow. One piece will overlap the other. Line up the raw edges all the way around and pin to hold them in place.
Sew all the way around the pillow case on the sewing machine, taking the pins out as you sew.
Flip the cover right-side out and put the pillow inside.
