How to Make a 12X12 Fleece Pillow Cover

If you're just beginning to sew or you want a quick decor project that will only take you a short period of time, create a 12-by-12 fleece throw pillow cover. Fleece pillow covers are constructed in the same manner as most pillow cases, so if you've made one before, making a fleece pillow cover will be a breeze. Lay the material complete flat, and be sure not to pull it too hard or stretch it as you work. Stretching the material during the cutting or sewing stage can cause your cover to be smaller than intended when the project is done.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Zipper
  • Buttons

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your pillow's length and width using a measuring tape to make sure your pillow really is 12-by-12.

    • 2

Measure and cut a 14-by-14-inch square of fleece material. This is the front of your pillow cover.

    • 3

Measure and cut two 8-by-14-inch rectangular pieces of fleece material. These pieces will make up the back of your pillow cover.

    • 4

Lay the 14-by-14-inch piece of fleece material face up on a table. Lay the two 8-by-14-inch pieces face down on top of the first piece. Lay each 8-by-14-inch piece so one 14-inch side lays even and flush with one of the 14-inch sides of the larger piece. Make each of the smaller pieces parallel to each other with about 1 inch of material overlapping in the middle.

    • 5

Measure about 1/2 inch from the outside of your fleece square. Pin the pieces together with straight pins. Sew the pieces together along the outside.

    • 6

Turn the fleece form you've created right side out. Fold the rough edges on the back over just a little, approximately 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch each. Stitch the rough edge down to create a hem-like line.

Put your pillow into your pillow cover. Close the cover by doing a quick straight stitch, that you can clip away later, when you want to remove the pillow, or install a zipper or buttons along the opening to keep it closed.
