What Is Stuffed in a Comforter?

Staying warm is important to getting a good night's sleep. Choosing the right comforter is imperative and there are many things to consider when you're shopping for the perfect one for you. One of them is its filling.
  1. Down-Filled

    • There are different grades of down-filled comforters, from those designed to keep you comfortable in a warm room to ones that keep you toasty even in the chilliest home.

Real down comforters are filled only with goose down, the soft inner plumage of the bird, not a combination of down and feathers.

    Eco Fibers

    • Comforters stuffed with natural fibers like cotton and wool are good choices for those with allergies and asthma. Wool comforters absorb a person's smell and some feel this makes them a good choice for babies because their blanket smells familiar.

    Silk

    • Comforters stuffed with silk are quite expensive. They are luxurious and perfect for warm-weather use. Silk comforters are fragile and are not a good choice for children or homes where pets share the bed with their owners

    Polyester

    • Down alternative comforters are often stuffed with polyester. They are as warm as down comforters with the added bonus of being machine-washable. Down alternative comforters are a popular choice of people allergic to feathers.

    Batting

    • Comforters designed for very warm sleeping conditions are stuffed with batting, usually a thin cotton or cotton blend piece of fabric between the top of the comforter and the bottom.
