How Do You Put a Sheet on Top of a Feather Bed?

Feather beds, essentially giant pillows, are made with down, feathers, or a combination of both. Available in various degrees of thickness, feather beds add cushioning and warmth to your bed. Since they add height, standard-sized sheets might not fit properly. When you cover a feather bed with a sheet, you will need to use a fitted sheet with deep pockets and an extra-long flat sheet; alternatively, you can use a sheet that's one size larger, i.e., use a king-size sheet on a queen-size bed.

Instructions

    • 1

Shake out the feather bed and place it on top of a bare mattress. Fluff the feather bed a couple of times to evenly distribute the down or feathers.

    • 2

Place the deep-pocket fitted sheet over the feather bed and mattress. Tuck the ends and sides of the sheet under the mattress to secure it. If your feather bed has its own cover, put your usual fitted sheet on the bare mattress, tuck it in, then place the covered feather bed on top of the fitted sheet.

    • 3

Spread an extra-long or over-sized flat sheet on top of the feather bed and tuck the foot end under the mattress. Next, tuck in the sides of the flat sheet, working up from the foot of the mattress until you reach the mattress's midway point.

Cover the sheets with the rest of your bedding as usual.
