Choose a base color that helps match the decor and keeps with the football theme. The NFL is played in autumn, so any falls colors will work, as the greens and browns match the colors of the football field as well. A two-tone base with a white separation strip would add elegance to the room. Use the Color Werx website to find the colors of your child's favorite team. Choose two or three of these colors for the base.
Paint football symbols on the wall. For example, you can line the bottom section of the wall with bold white numbers and lines to make it like a replica football field. The field could extend around the room and give an instant football feeling. On the top half, add random-sized football paintings, field goal posts and painted-on banners that say general phrases like "Go Team!" and "Touchdown!"
For a child, football heroes could change season by season. Instead of plastering a permanent player on the wall, use a general player painting of some in-action football. This could include a painting of a quarterback throwing a ball, a defensive player tackling or a punter kicking the ball high. Use a pencil to outline the general drawing, and then use broad strokes and little details to give a nostalgic feel.
Finish off the walls with some final painting touches. Sponge brown sections of the wall to add a football-like texture. Use chalkboard paint to apply a scoreboard on the wall that the child can use to fill in fake scores or real scores of her favorite team. Separate the wall with a football lace pattern across the center of it. Talk with your child to come up with the best ideas that fit into a budget and will make the room a success.
