Fun Painting Ideas for Teenagers' Rooms With Brown & Blues

A teenager's room can become her own personal kingdom. As a peaceful respite from the rest of the world or a cool place to hang with friends, finding a cool decorating scheme is key to making this space the perfect place for your teenager. Instead of a boring, blah paint job, spice things up a bit with a fun blue and brown design in stripes, patterns and more.
  1. Colors

    • There are an array of different blues and browns to choose from when painting your teen's room. For a more masculine or boyish looking space, try darker shades such as navy blue and chocolate brown. If you are looking for a lighter, more airy palette, consider baby blues and beige-type browns or create a beachy theme with aqua blues and sandy brown. Another option is to make the room pop with vibrant colors, using bold planetary blues and rich browns mixed with a hint of red for an eclectic mix.

    Stripes

    • Painted stripes are a fun substitute for wallpaper. Instead of leaving walls plain, you can use a variety of blues and browns to create either horizontal or vertical stripes across one or all of your teen's walls. Alternate the blue and brown or dedicate each wall to a specific color. Use one color in different tones or sheens to differentiate the stripes. For example, create a pattern of vertical stripes in light and bold blue on two opposing walls and paint the others brown and beige stripes. Simply paint the wall one base color, and then mark off the stripes with a level and painter's tape. Add the second color for instant visual interest.

    Themes

    • Although many parents typically think of themed rooms as the perfect decor for young children, older teens can also enjoy this design idea. Instead of a childish character, use color to create a thematic tie through the entire space. For example, ocean toned aquas and light sandy browns create a beautiful beach aesthetic. Use a bold blue-green shade on one wall as an accent, and paint the rest of the room in the sand hue. If you are looking for a less tropical theme, create an earthy ice palace with frosty blues set in contrast to deep brown paint accents.

    Stencils and Pictures

    • Create an ultra fun environment for your teenager by adding a layer of paint with an imaginative stenciled image. Choose a lighter shade of blue for a base color and stencil on a dark brown silhouette of a picture or even use a rich chocolate color to highlight creative calligraphy type letters. Mix and match patterns or florals together with different shades of both blue and brown for a young, wacky feel throughout the entire space. If your teen is looking for a more basic design, try a simple, elegant border in brown set against a baby or jewel-toned blue wall.
