Test the color of paint before painting the entire room. Choose a sizable area of the room and paint that part of the wall. Allow the paint to dry so you can get an idea of how the color will look against different types of lighting.
Paint the walls a darker color rather than a lighter one. Dark walls will give a room a cozier feel while lighter colors create a more open, airy space. For example, pick warm browns, a dark red, forest green or navy blue to make the room feel smaller and thus cozier.
Paint the ceiling a darker color than the walls. Use colors that will contrast with or compliment the walls. Darker colors on a ceiling create the illusion of a smaller room.
Choose a variety of paint colors to paint the molding and trim. This will break up sections of wall space, creating a cozier feeling in the room.
