Cute Bedroom Painting Ideas for Adults

Your bedroom is potentially the most personal room in your home. It's where you spend a good deal of time, so it should be decorated in colors and styles you really enjoy. Plain, single-colored walls are common in bedrooms but not visually interesting, especially if you'd like to express yourself in your private abode. Custom-painted bedrooms needn't be just for children's rooms. You can paint your own bedroom in whatever manner you choose, whether you prefer inspirational phrases on the walls or retro patterns in two-tone colors. Creativity isn't just for kids.
  1. Messages

    • A cheery yet peaceful paint color sets the perfect tone for handwritten affirmations and reminders painted on your bedroom walls. Choose a soothing, modern color, such as a modern light green or even periwinkle, for the main wall color. Project and trace positive messages of your choice on the walls in colors that go well with your original choice: white, yellow or a cheery blue, for instance. Messages can be anything from "Think on good things" to "Whatever you believe is true," or simply, "I am." Choose a phrase or phrases that resonate with your beliefs -- something that reminds you to put your best foot forward every day. Another option would be lyrics from songs, favorite poems, or any phrases you like.

    Waves of Peace: Water

    • If you enjoy being near water and everything about it, an ocean oasis theme may be fun and peaceful for your bedroom. Paint the bottom area of one or all walls in beach tones with the ocean above it. Near the ceiling, paint to resemble the sky. Draw in features such as starfish, footprints in the sand, ocean waves, boats, puffy clouds and seagulls. A palm tree silhouette in a corner brings an added vibe of peace to the room. Another option is to paint the entire bedroom with an underwater theme, complete with painted-on fish. If you like water sports, you could paint scuba divers or water skiers on your walls.

    Skyline: City/Country

    • If city lights are more your style, consider painting a skyline on one or more walls. Use black or indigo to outline the buildings. Paint around a small window and treat it as if the window belongs to one of your painted skyscrapers. Paint the sky in an evening blue or in varying shades up to a dark night sky. Use inviting colors rather than dreary grays. Consider recreating the peace of a sunset against rolling country hills.

    Painted Designs

    • If cutesy murals aren't your thing, paint your walls in a color you find peaceful and soothing, or a color that matches the rest of the decor in your room. Choose a second color that goes well with the first, such as mocha over tan, to paint a design on one or more walls for a focal point. A modern, retro design works well on one wall. Think 1960s wallpaper patterns of lines with rounded squares, or something else visually interesting to you. Find a pattern you like and project it or freehand it on the walls, then paint with your second paint color. You also could stencil designs in place. You could paint one large design somewhere as a focal point, or paint numerous designs in patterns on your walls. Pick something that adds visual interest without looking too busy.
